Why I Don't Spend a Fortune on a Planner Anymore

Well I guess I am going to just continue a little mini series today for the New Year that actually unintentionally happened. A new year just brings about this nostalgia for me of starting fresh. (I know I sound like a complete nerd.)

I shared my Rockstar Posts of 2015 and also what my focus for 2016 is going to be last week just in case you missed it.

Today though is all about staying organized with a new planner. Now for those of you who didn’t know, (chances are you probably already know this if you are reading this but,) there are some serious planner addicts out there with Facebook groups and all sorts of collections of planner accessories.

How to Have a Great Planner without Breaking the Bank

I love a planner and all the fun goodies that can come along with a planner just like the rest of them, but let’s be honest. It doesn’t take long for the amount you spend to keep stacking up higher and higher before you realize it. Then your husband is looking at you like, “Really, you needed one more roll of washi tape to go along with the other 100 rolls you already have?”

Don’t feel like you have to break the bank just to have a cute yet functional planner that works for you. You can still keep your planner and all the fun stuff within your budget. Plus your husband will thank you for it too.

Disclaimer: I am SO NOT against all the planners that you see out there on the internet. I am guilty myself of having a particular one that is very popular in the planner world. I just want y’all to know that there is another way too.

First of all, Get a planner that will work best for you and your schedule.

Of course there are so many different kinds online and in stores from monthly, to weekly, to even daily if you want to stay that organized.

I found this planner at Target for around $12. So affordable, and I love it! It looks simple and classy at the same time with the touch of pink on the band.

I have a monthly view on the calendar as well as weekly.

What attracted me to this particular planner as well are the weekly sheets. It gives me a place to write goals and tasks for the week to keep me on track. If you don’t write down your goals to stay accountable, chances are you will forget and just won’t do it.

There are also areas for me to write in monthly goals each month. Bonus!

Next, feel free to spruce it up some too.

I have a slight addiction, okay major addiction to washi tape. I love that it comes in so many different designs and colors for just about anything. Plus it is very inexpensive. I use washi a lot to decorate my planner with.

You can add it to the front cover if yours is too plain and boring. I love the gold sparkly washi tape I had to add to the first page when you open the planner.

You can also choose different style washi to decorate each month with on the monthly calendar page. There is some really cute holiday washi out there too.

Project Life cards and sticky notes are a fun way to add extra space in your planner if you are needing it. I use them to make grocery lists to stick in my planner so I won’t forget them.

You can also use paper clips that are in different shapes and colors to add an extra touch to keep your place for whatever week it may be.

All of these items can also be found at your local dollar store or my favorite is the dollar spot at Target.

Every good planner also needs an awesome pen.

Some pens cost more money and work really well, but I have found that these pens from the dollar spot at Target are my favorite. They don’t bleed through the pages and write very smoothly. They are much better than the old style Target used to carry that clicked.

Once you have a planner that works best for you and has the style or look you want with a few simple decorations, you are ready to get organized and conquer the world (or maybe just this week to start off).

I will be sharing later this week more ideas of how to use washi tape to keep you organized in your planner along with other tips and ideas. Stay tuned!

Thanks for coming over! It really is true. Whatever works best for you is the way to go. Sometimes it’s easy to get wrapped up in all the gorgeous but yet expensive planners we see online that aren’t always necessary.
