One thing that a lot of people probably don’t know about me is that I love anything Barbie and especially vintage Barbie. I by no means have a huge collection like some people, but I do enjoy collecting their memorabilia when I run up on it.

Don't throw away your outdated calendars anymore. You can now save the pictures from each month and create beautiful wall art. Come see how I decorated with my own at thesoutherncouture.com.

This Barbie calendar is one that I had several years ago, and I just couldn’t part with it at the end of the year. I love the pictures for each month with the “old” style or vintage Barbie. I have held on to it since then wanting to do something special with it, but I couldn’t decide until now.

Instead of keeping the calendar folded all nice and neatly and tucked away in a drawer, it was time to show off those gorgeous dresses and colors. My craft room was also needing a little something extra on one wall beside my weekly chalkboard that I repurposed from a clearance find so why not frame those gorgeous ladies and show them off. I saved a ton of money from not having to buy other décor pieces as well.

A great way to save money when buying picture frames is to always check at your local dollar store first. I found these black frames that are simple but perfect for this project. I didn’t want a frame with too much decoration that would actually take away from the pictures themselves.

All you need is a paper cutter or scissors and a pencil, and you are ready to go.

Lay the glass part of the frame on the top of the picture so you can see what part of the picture you want to use and cut out.

Draw a line on the picture beside the glass to make it easier to cut.

I then just used my paper cutter to cut the sides off which made it much easier to get a straight line. You could also use scissors.

Place the picture inside the frame and that is all! I hung several on my wall for a collage of pictures.

You could also frame one and place it on your desk for a little something girly and decorative with all the bright colors.

I also noticed that because the pictures are from a 12 month calendar, there are some gorgeous beach, holiday, Christmas, etc. themed pictures that would be great to frame and use during that particular season to change them up a bit.

I have another larger calendar from this past year that has all sorts of desserts with cake pops and macaroons that I would love to frame and hang up as well. This is such a great way to repurpose your old calendars instead of just trashing them.

I hope you enjoy even the little things like a framed calendar picture as much as I do. I would love to see what your style of calendars is as well if you choose to frame them.

This is fabulous! And this is why I kind of love the dollar store…you can’t always find what you want, but most of the time, you’ll find something that works good enough (*and* for 1$!).
I will have to be on the lookout for some frames for this year’s calendar…we’ve got a Star Wars Clone Wars calendar that has some awesome characters in it I would like to hold onto!!
