Ugly Christmas Tree Sweater 10

I remember when I was a little girl and Christmas themed shirts and sweaters were so popular which is why this tacky and ugly Christmas tree sweater brings back so many memories for me.

Wearing a Christmas sweater was so popular back then. So with my Mom being the crafty person she is, she would make me, my sister, and herself beautiful shirts with glitter, paint, and any other craft item she could find. We had reindeers, Christmas trees, snowmen, and anything else you could think of.

Then there was a phase when Christmas sweaters were no longer popular to wear and had “went out of style.” Now I have noticed that retailers are selling ugly Christmas sweater kits for you to make your own again. I don’t know about bringing the style back, but for a fun ugly Christmas sweater themed party, bring it on.

It would be a blast to make one and wear it for a Christmas party just for fun. And if you really feel like getting in the tacky Christmas spirit, I am sure you or your Mom or Grandmother have some tacky Christmas jewelry that will go along with it perfectly.

I had some extra garland lying around and thought I would put it to good use which would be perfect on a tacky Christmas sweater. Let’s get started.

Supplies:

Sweatshirt or sweater- Use a sweater or sweatshirt that is old and you don’t mind “ruining” it with Christmas decorations. We aren’t talking anything to nice or expensive since you aren’t wearing it year round anyways.

Garland

Miniature ornaments, jingle bells, bakers twine, paint, etc.- Basically any small Christmas items or craft items to decorate with. Use your imagination.

Hot glue gun and glue sticks

First lay out the garland on the shirt until you are happy with the look for the tree. Hot glue the garland onto the shirt in the shape of a tree.

I decided to go ahead and add some extra garland to the bottom of the sleeves as well.

Then place your ornaments, jingle bells, bakers twine, etc. on the tree until you are happy with your design.

Go ahead and then hot glue them onto the garland.

*When choosing what to decorate your tree with, be cautious with anything that is too heavy that would be difficult to glue on or pull the sweater down.

Continue decorating with paint or any other craft items until you are happy with the look of your “ugly” Christmas sweater. I went ahead and also added different size pom poms around the neck and two larger red ones for the base of the tree.

If you are hosting a Christmas party or dinner this month, consider having an ugly Christmas sweater theme. Your guests can all wear their favorite ones with their tacky Christmas jewelry. This would be such a cute theme and would look so cute in pictures.

I even though about having everyone wear one on Christmas eve if your family gets together then. Maybe even for a family Christmas card this year that is a little more relaxed. The options are endless.

LOL Bethany! I hated when my mom would buy us Christmas sweaters when I was a teen. I was too cool for that and she didn’t get it! LOL.

You really have an ugly-crafty-cute sweater thing going there. I’m sure an ugly Christmas party would be a lot of fun!

I have been trying to make mines buy was deciding how to attach the garland. Did the hot glue actually hold everything in place? I’m afraid as soon as I put it on everything will fall off.

The hot glue gun has held all of mine on. Two years later and mine is still going strong with nothing falling off. Put extra if you doubt at all. It can’t hurt. Hope that helps!
