Tie Dye Infinity Scarf Using Super Soaker Water Gun

Remember those giant super soaker water guns that you had as a kid that maybe your siblings drove you crazy with. Maybe your kids now are still soaking you with one and having a blast doing it. Well now you can put all that energy into helping you becoming more stylish while they have a blast at the same time. Now how exactly can that happen you’re wondering.

You don't have to have a lot of money to dress up your wardrobe. Make your own from an old t-shirt with this no-sew tutorial from thesoutherncouture.com. Your kids can also help by tie dying their own.

You can enroll their help to make you a new summer infinity scarf. And if you have daughters or nieces, they can even make one for them and their friends too. You may want to first put on an old bathing suit or old clothes that you don’t mind getting ruined before getting started, because I can’t promise this won’t get messy with a water gun in play here. You know the temptation is real when holding that giant super soaker in hand.

I used a white t-shirt that I found on clearance at Wal-Mart for just a dollar or two. Start by cutting a straight line directly across the t-shirt from one armpit to the other. *You will no longer need the top portion with the sleeves of the shirt.

Begin preparing your fabric dye according to the package instructions.

Next twist portions of the shirt and tie off with a rubber band. You can also tie parts of it in knots. Be creative. The more twisted portions you have, the more rings and design you will have once it is finished.

Add the prepared dye to the super soaker water gun. Play around with different colors in each gun and just have fun with it.

Once you are done having a water gun fight, finish making your shirt according the dye package directions.

If you want to skip the water gun (I don’t know why you would want to, but…), you can also just use bowls to soak the t-shirt in the dye or cut a t-shirt that you like with either a design or solid and decorate it using fabric paint.

Place a piece of cardboard through the middle of the shirt to keep the paint from bleeding through to the other side of the shirt.

I chose the white t-shirt and used round spouncers (which are basically just circular foambrushes) to paint polka dots throughout the scarf. *Be sure to use fabric paint that can be washed if needed in the future to keep from the paint being washed off.

Once it has dried, put your arm through the middle of the scarf and bundle it up until you have an infinity scarf.

Your kids can also enjoy making their own tie dye shirts this summer too. I have fond memories of making my own as a child, and now you can relive all those again with the fun of a super soaker and some food coloring.

Enjoy the little things in life like the memories you will make this summer.
