There are so many different techniques and things you can do with gelatos which is what makes them so fun for your creativity. My Favorite Things Craft Edition featuring Faber Castell gelatos has to be one of the top favorites for this series and must be included.

Each month I am featuring a new favorite from my craft stash, whether new or old, to share with y’all. The idea came to me after getting questions about what specific items I like to use so I thought it would be fun to highlight them. The last part of this series featured my date stamp. I absolutely love mine, and I know you will too so be sure to check out that post as well if you missed it.
Today is all about my Faber Castell Gelatos. I say it all the time, and some of you may be sick of hearing it, but they are absolutely one of my most favorite craft items I own. I pull them out all the time when I’m working in my journaling Bible. You could even use them in your planner and with art journaling.
So what exactly are they?
They are similar to a crayon in texture and look like a chapstick in its tube that can be twisted up when needed. They go smoothly onto the page like butter and can be used with several different techniques for different effects. You can find all different colors and color sets including bright, metallic, and pastel.
How can I use them?
You can use the gelatos in a similar way to crayons by just drawing on the page without any extra technique. The colors are very bold and perfect to use them alone. They just have a wide tip so it would be hard to use them as a crayon for smaller details.
I have used them with a damp cloth or baby wipe to blend different colors together or give a watercolor effect. You could also use a makeup sponge. Another favorite of mine is wetting the top of the gelato with a wet paintbrush and wiping that color onto a clear stamp and stamping directly to the page. Basically if you can think up an idea of using them, then it will probably work because they are so versatile. Here is the tutorial for using this technique.
Don’t be intimidated to try them out if you never have or don’t feel like the most artistic person. I started out using them in basic ways and have started branching out and trying even more fun techniques. I’m so glad I did. Let me know if you try them out and what technique is your favorite.
