Homemade Restaurant Style Salsa Recipe

There is one thing I love and that is fresh tomatoes every summer right out of the garden. Besides the fact that they are simply delicious, you have this sense of pride knowing that you grew them and knowing exactly where they came from.

Now my Dad can basically eat a fresh, garden tomato like an apple. That’s how much he loves them. Me, not so much? (Imagine if Snow White had eat a tomato instead of an apple. Pretty weird huh? Sorry, just a side note and how my mind works.) My all-time favorite way to use tomatoes when cooking is with salsa.

When it’s made homemade, there is just something different about it. I could eat bowls full at a time when I make it. Give me some tortilla chips and soft shell tortillas and I am good to go. (Homemade tortillas are really delicious, but if you just want to pick some up in the store then you should definitely go with the restaurant or cantina style. The best!!)

Ingredients:

  • 3 Large tomatoes, diced with excess juice drained- You can use 6 roma tomatoes if you don’t have a garden.
  • ½ large onion, diced
  • 1 jalapeno, diced
  • 1-8 oz can tomato sauce
  • ¼ cup cilantro, finely chopped- I love cilantro, so if it’s not your thing be sure to lessen this amount or cut it out completely.
  • 1 Tablespoon Lime Juice
  • Salt, to taste

Combine ingredients in a large bowl until well combined. Serve with tortilla chips or soft tortilla shells. And now just enjoy!

The more I make this, the more I know exactly how much I want of each ingredient and can start adding more or less for my preference. Feel free to adjust the amount of cilantro or lime you prefer. My husband does not really care for cilantro so I usually cut it back some.

If you are making this for a large dinner or party, feel free to double the recipe and make it ahead of time to make it even easier. Just be warned…It’s addictive! Don’t blame me.

Let me just add to that this homemade restaurant style salsa recipe would be the perfect topping for my blackened tilapia tacos with avocado cream sauce recipe. They are just as delicious!
