There is no doubt that we all feel better when we are actually living a healthier lifestyle. I know that I have more energy than ever. I sleep like a baby leaving me so refreshed the next morning. My focus and motivation to get work done seems to be even better which makes me feel accomplished.

Really there aren’t any negative effects of living healthier. At least I haven’t found any yet and don’t know of anyone else who has either. The only problem is actually getting started. That is usually the hardest part. Once you do, then you are golden.

I have several tips to help you maintain a healthy lifestyle especially during the busyness of life.

1. Incorporate Protein into Your Diet

I know that for me, I find myself becoming shaky and weak when I’m not eating protein. Sometimes when things are hectic and busy, it isn’t always easy to be able to stop and prepare a meal with a meat.

2. Establish an Exercise Routine

It is not just enough to say on Sunday night, I am going to work-out 4 times this week. You need to determine what days, at what time, and what exercise you will be performing. I have planned so many times with good intention to work-out and then life happens. I am too tired once I get off work, and then I no longer have that same motivation.

If I write it down and keep myself accountable with a plan then I am much more apt to keep my exercise plans. You must also stay in that routine to be successful. Don’t stop or get out of a routine because it’s always harder to start again. Make things easier for yourself, not harder.

3. Plan Your Meals for the Week Ahead

There is nothing more frustrating than exercising to only find that you don’t know what to make for dinner because there are no groceries. So then you end up heading to get take-out which we all know isn’t healthy.

If you will plan your meals for the week ahead of time and buy your groceries accordingly, then your meals for the week ahead are already planned and just have to be made. It is so much easier to stick to a healthier lifestyle when you know what you are going to eat ahead of time. This is especially helpful for me after a stressful or long day at work when I really just want to go splurge.

4. Drink Lots of Water

I don’t know how to stress the importance of water for our bodies. Water is the best thing we can drink and put in our bodies to keep us hydrated. Water helps so many different organs and is instrumental in a healthier lifestyle.

I recommend getting a cup or water bottle that you really love to keep with you all day to drink water throughout the day. For me a cute cup is encouraging and makes me want to drink it. (Kinda weird? But it works.)

The Perfect Gift for the Newest Bundle of Joy in Your Family

I am going to be an aunt for the first time come January. I couldn’t be more thrilled and am so excited. Is it bad that every time I walk into a store now I go straight to the baby and kids section to see what I can find? This is going to be one spoiled little boy, but isn’t that how it is supposed to be?

I just couldn’t help myself when I found this new and one-of-a-kind stuffed animal in Walmart for my nephew… CloudPets™. I found this one at the front of the store on a display with bears and kitties too. It does require three AA batteries, but these can be found at the front of the store too to make your shopping trip even easier.

Who would imagine that technology would one day allow us to send messages to our loved ones no matter how far away they are? I love that I don’t have to be close to my nephew to send a message to let him know how much I love him. With this stuffed animal, all his Mommy has to do is download the free app, register his puppy, and then invite family and friends to send him messages.

What is so adorable is that his heart will light up and flash when he has a message waiting for him to hear. He can then record and send messages back to me. His puppy will also be able to play games and sing him lullabies when I’m not there to.

His Mom and Dad don’t have to worry about anyone sending him inappropriate messages either because it comes with parental controls making it even safer. Now if you are wondering how exactly how this comes together and works, check out the “How It Works” video HERE for a demonstration.

Now you may be thinking, he is only a baby and won’t really be able to play with his puppy. For me that’s the fun part of the whole thing though. Having voice messages recorded is a fun way to let him know how I feel about him and different experiences he has through his first year of life. Then when he is a little bit older, he will be able to listen to all of our messages and enjoy them forever.

I think this is such a great and modern way to send “letters” to them that they can enjoy later and know all the fun memories we made.

What All Pet Owners Should Have +{Free Printable}

Are your pets and animals your kids too? I know they are for me. I am a huge animal lover and I don’t know what I would do without my dogs. I probably treat them like kids more than pets in all reality, but I just can’t resist those adorable faces.

Recharge with a Creative Retreat

Summer is just about over. Yes that was probably the worst way ever to start off a blog post, but please don’t go anywhere. The good news for you though is that if you have kids, then that means that they are going to be back in school which hopefully gives you some time to yourself.

You have been busy all summer keeping them occupied and entertained. Now it is your turn to have some alone time. If you have been feeling like you are in a rut, then I have the perfect solution for you. Here is the golden answer…

You need to schedule your own creative retreat. Creative retreat…you’re thinking what in the world is this. It’s like taking “Me time” to another level. Schedule time for yourself to get away and enjoy what makes you happy and gets your creativity flowing. You will be amazed at how much you will actually get done. You will even feel refreshed afterwards which helps you to get even more done later.

This is only scraping the top of this whole concept which is why I am so glad I came across The Creative Retreat Workbook by Jennie Moraitis. She gives you a simple guide for planning your own personal retreat to help you recharge, reassess, and create.

Sometimes we are too afraid to just dive in to our creativity because we think we will mess things up. In her book, Jennie encourages us to give ourselves permission to mess up and just enjoy ourselves. I can be a bit OCD at times which can also hinder me from really enjoying things and learning something new.

Yesterday was actually the last day of my official summer before school started again. I am a school nurse as well and had to go back for pre-planning today. I wanted to spend my last day doing something for myself to just relax. Adult coloring pages have been very popular lately. I always had a love for coloring as a child and love the fact that I have an excuse to color again. I scheduled my own creative retreat yesterday morning and enjoyed getting my own creative juices flowing again.

Laundry No Longer Has to Be Your Worst Enemy

Aren’t we always looking for something new to make our lives easier and simpler? It may be a new kitchen gadget to slice that pineapple or like it was for me recently when I found something new to use while doing laundry.

So LAUNDRY… yes, that dreaded word. I don’t really know anyone who enjoys doing laundry or standing over the washing machine or sink just scrubbing those stubborn stains for hours and hours only to find that your work has been for nothing.

My favorite DIY jewelry cleaner has been a favorite with so many of y’all which is why I couldn’t wait to share this new cleaning idea. Be sure to come back this Friday too where I will be sharing another great cleaning idea to get you and the kiddos ready for back to school time.

One thing that makes laundry so tiring at times, besides scrubbing stains as I mentioned before, is the risk of possibly ruining your clothes by shrinking them or dying all those bright white towels light pink.

One thing that I do love to do besides laundry (wink wink) is making my husband happy. He seems to love when I wash his white shirts in bleach. He loves the fresh and clean smell. Plus Mark’s white t-shirts tend to become dingy and worn out easily especially in the underarms.

The one thing that makes me tend to “forget” to use bleach regularly is that sometimes I tend to be clumsy and don’t want to risk spilling it all over the clothes I’m wearing. I actually spilled laundry detergent behind the machine while trying to take pictures for this post.

Stay Germ Free for Back to School

Is anyone else a total germ phobe or is it just me? Maybe it’s because I’m a nurse and had it drilled in my head all throughout nursing school. I actually work as a school nurse which many of you probably didn’t know. So there’s your fun fact about me for the day, and it won’t even cost ya anything.

Because I’m a nurse, schools just seem to be the breeding ground for germs and all that yucky stuff that your kids tend to bring home to you and the entire house. As you prepare for back to school, those germs are really getting excited and awaiting their time to attack.

Maybe they’re not going to attack, but they likely are ready to give us a run for our money which is why it’s always a good thing to get a head start on them. And I have the perfect solution to help you get started.

First, pull your car into Target immediately. I love love love Target and have always been a huge fan of theirs. There are so many fun things to find that you never even knew you needed until that very moment when you finally spot it.

Target has always had the cutest back to school supplies for the kids, but they also have the “Mom supplies” that you need to. Head to the cleaning section and be sure to grab what this nurse trust to fight those big bad germs, Clorox Disinfecting Wipes.

I use Clorox Disinfecting Wipes in my school clinic every day multiple times per day. I love that they are easy and quick to use without having to spray a cleaner and then wipe down. I can use them between students coming in to keep them from catching a nasty contagious cold of flu. I use them to also wipe down the clinic and supplies at the end of each day as well.

You can also find multi value packs at Target which are great to keep 1 or 2 containers at home for you and then send the other one to school with your children for their teacher. The school can try to do their part to keep everyone healthy, but now it’s your turn to.

Because kids are doomed bring some germs home no matter what, you are going to need the manpower of these wipes to fight for you at home too. This wipe is one that can be used on all sorts of surfaces and objects. You may even want to consider throwing out the dishcloth that houses tons of germs that you keep wiping all over the counters and kitchen tables. Now you can use a wipe that kills the germs and then gets thrown away to keep them from moving from room to room.

Dollar Tree Beauty Finds {Repurchase or Return}

I have always loved saving money which is why the Dollar Tree is one of my favorite stores. You truly never know what you are going to find which makes it even more fun. I scored some pretty good beauty items that I think you will love too to save some money. Please enjoy!

#1 L.A. Colors Liquid Eyeliner

I have used liquid eyeliner in the past but not recently and really wanted to get some more. I saw this one and though why not since it’s only $1.00. I love the way it went on very smoothly. The brush at the end was also a good quality and left a straight and smooth line. It gave me the results I wanted so I couldn’t be happier compared to others that cost much more.

I will definitely REPURCHASE.

#2 L.A. Colors Nail Polish

I can definitely tell the difference between salon nail polish that cost $9.00 per bottle and something much cheaper at $1.00 per bottle. The more expensive brands do tend to last longer and not chip off as easily. But when I am wanting to try a new color but don’t want to spend a ton on something I may never use again, then the Dollar Tree is the way to go. I love bright colors for my nails, but sometimes want something more neutral or nude. The color pictured above looks awesome on my fingernails.

If I am wanting to paint my toenails before going to the beach, then it would be with my more expensive salon polish so it will last longer in the ocean and sand.

I will definitely REPURCHASE.

#3 Nail File Block:

When I found this one, I was so excited because it brought back so many sweet memories from my childhood that I had forgotten about. I hadn’t seen one in a long time and couldn’t believe I could ever forget about it. My Mom had one when I was little that I would always use when I was playing manicures with my sister. I never really knew what all the different surfaces were for, but I felt so big using it.

I like this file a lot, and don’t get me wrong it worked great but not sure how noticeable the difference in my nails is after using it. It still made me feel better after using it. I will definitely use it when taking the time to give myself a good manicure.

I will definitely REPURCHASE.

#4 PUMICE STONE:

I have bought these many times in the past from beauty supply stores and always loved them. I will usually keep one in the shower to use while I’m showering to keep the heels of my feet soft all the time. Squirt some baby oil gel or shower gel and you are ready to go. Your heels will be baby butt soft.

This one has the same great quality even though it only cost $1. Compared to those in the beauty supply stores, it isn’t a ton cheaper but still saves me about $3-$4.

I will definitely REPURCHASE.

#5 Hot Oil Hair Treatment:

I like to do hot oil treatments on my hair occasionally because I do use straighteners and curling irons on my hair daily. My hair definitely felt moisturized while I was using the treatment in the shower. After I blow dried my hair, I honestly didn’t see a noticeable difference. I do feel that my hair is healthier than it has been in the past but just not sure that it’s the hot oil treatment doing it.

I will LEAVE them next time.

#6 REVITALIZING EYE PADS

Mark didn’t realize I had put these on after washing my face one night, and I was sitting on the couch beside him. He looked over giving me the funniest look like, “What do you have on?” I was very interested to see if these would actually work because during the Spring I do tend to have puffy eyes with the pollen and allergies.

While I was wearing them, it felt very cool and soothing which was really nice. As far as it actually helping in appearance, I can’t honestly say that I saw a big difference.

I will LEAVE them next time.

Dollar Tree Findings: Repurchase or Return

I am so happy to be back sharing another great shopping trip at the Dollar Tree. So many of you seemed to love my first Dollar Tree haul and agreed that it is so much fun to find great stuff there especially when it’s only $1!

For this haul, I found some really great items at a different store than the one I usually shop at. I would love to have a theme for the next hauls such as beauty, home, food, etc. So we will just have to see how it goes at my next shopping trip and what great stuff I find.

I will also be adding either a LOVE or LEAVE below each item so you will know what I really liked and would buy again or would rather skip on next time and not waste a dollar on.

Let’s not waste any time. There may just be some pretty good finds this go around.

#1. Dr. Fresh Toothbrush and Cover Travel Bag

This type of toothbrush kit is something I really wanted but didn’t realize I wanted it until I saw it. Taking a toothbrush for brushing during the day after lunch or wherever you may be is a great idea but not great if you are carrying around a toothbrush in your purse getting all sorts of germs on it. This kit comes with this lightweight bag, a small travel size toothpaste, and a plastic cover for the bristles. My favorite part of this is that the plastic cover keeps the toothbrush cleaner.

I actually had a friend that is pregnant and carries a toothbrush to work with her to use after she gets sick throughout the day to freshen her mouth and breath. Bless her heart! Well this was the perfect solution for her instead of having to keep it wrapped in a paper towel all day.

I will definitely REPURCHASE.

#2. Kleenex Tissue Purse Packs

I actually got some of these in my stocking from my parents at Christmas and loved them so much. They come in different designs which are all really cute and not like those usual travel tissue packs that are so boring. Little did I know, my Mom had already found this great steal at the Dollar Tree.

Each pack comes with 2 different designs and fold flat making them easy to take along with you anywhere. Tissues are a must in my purse and I love that these cute designs are only a $1.

I will definitely REPURCHASE.

#3. Spic N Span Cleaning Gloves

Okay how cute are these? I love these designs. I got the pair with the red and white design. I love how cute they are which makes cleaning so much more fun. Funny that I mentioned my Mom earlier because she actually introduced me to adorable cleaning gloves like these in my Christmas stocking one year, but they weren’t from the Dollar Tree.

Although it is adorable, this pair was too big on my hands which isn’t hard to do because I do have small hands. I’m 4’11” so most things are too big. With the extra length in the fingers hanging off it does make it difficult to clean with them at times. They are also thinner than most making me wonder if they would last very long.

I would LEAVE them next time.

#4. Disney Princess Drinking Cup

What girl doesn’t love princesses and all things pink? Well maybe some don’t, but I know I do. When I was little my favorite Disney princess was Ariel and still is. So when I saw this cup I just couldn’t resist. It is the perfect size for me too. If I get a glass too big, I will never drink it all and will throw half of it away. My husband always laughs at me for getting such a big cup and saying I will drink it all but never being able to. This cup is the perfect size and saves me from doing that now. Plus what’s even better is that it will keep my drink cold for a long time without sweating too.

I will definitely REPURCHASE.

So the book section of the Dollar Tree is one that is overlooked a lot of times. That’s a shame because you can really find some great books and they’re only a $1. A lot of time, that is even cheaper than some yard sales. I love having pretty books to sit on our coffee table or stand on a shelf. This book is beautiful but also crafty and informative. I don’t know how to knit personally but would love to one day. I have a feeling I will be glad I bought this book one day.

I would definitely REPURCHASE.

Be sure to head on over to the Dollar Tree and find these while they last since they do sell out quickly when everything is only $1.

Dollar Tree Haul

If you haven’t learned this about me yet, then I’m here to tell you that one of my most favorite things to do is BARGAIN SHOP!! I love shopping anyways but when you find a good deal, the feeling is even better.

This is why the Dollar Tree is one of my most favorite places to shop. Now before you automatically assume that everything there is just junk or cheaply made, I’m here to tell you otherwise.

There are lots of great products at the Dollar Tree that can really save you a lot of money rather than shopping at Wal-Mart for certain things or other major retail stores.

Because I do have such a passion for saving money, I am starting a new Dollar Tree Haul series where I will be sharing my most recent finds and an honest opinion of what I think of them. Then hopefully you can also try them out for yourself too.

I haven’t decided how often or if there will be a specific day for these posts. I hope to do them at least once a month and hopefully even more than that. I want to keep the post recent so that way you can also shop at your Dollar Tree before the items are sold out or not restocked.

The other great thing is that each hail may be random fun things I found or have a specific theme. That will all depend on what I find which makes me excited when thinking about finding new Dollar Tree stores and what each one has differently.

Now let’s get started because I really have some fun new stuff I found that I can’t wait to kick this off with.

Glamourlines Bra Strap Clip

This clip is used to clip together your bra straps in the back to make them invisible when wearing a razorback shirt. The pack comes with 3 different colors including white, black, and tan making it more versatile to go with more outfits. I’m gonna be honest. I have never been good with hooking my own bra in the back but having to hook it in the front and then turning it around so trying to figure out how to hook it seemed a little confusing to me even though there are directions on the back. Thank goodness my husband doesn’t mind to help me out.

Elf Lip Gloss Stick

I have used elf products before and have enjoyed some of them. I also have several lip gloss sticks or crayons and love them. I had never used elf’s before but was very pleased. I loved the color and how creamy it made my lips feel. I would definitely purchase it again.

Adjustable Measuring Spoon

This spoon adjust to whatever size I need it to be while baking or cooking. I loved that I can have one spoon and all I have to do is adjust the handle. It is very easy to adjust and stays true to the size it says it is measuring. So much better than having to look through 10 different little spoons and also doesn’t dirty as many dishes. This was probably my favorite find.

Gardening Knee Mat

I was wanting one of these last year when planting flowers in our front flower bed. My thighs got so sore from squatting and having to reposition so often. I didn’t want to kneel because I would get my pants really dirty in the knees. A towel wouldn’t do the trick either because then the mulch we have would poke through and be even more painful.

When I picked this up, it was very lightweight making me think it may not work too well. The padding is actually very comfortable and will be very helpful when planting my flowers this spring and also while working in our garden.

Mosaic Garden Stone

As I mentioned before, I love my spring flowers and gardening. Having a garden flag, lantern, etc. makes my flower beds look even better. I loved the mosaic colors and the way it will look when shining in the sun. Plus can you believe it was only a $1? They also had other designs and colors available.

Potted Succulent

Succulents seem to be so popular right now. These artificial plants are just as cute. I honestly don’t like the plastic cup that the succulent is sitting in. To me it does look cheap. I am planning on removing the succulent and spray painting the miniature pot. This will make it look totally different and much more expensive.

I love all these finds and have enjoyed using them. I can’t wait to find even more good bargains and share them with all of you. If you happen to find these or your own that you love, please share them with me. I would love to try them too.
