If you or your children look forward to Christmas as much as I do, then you are going to love this ornament countdown to Christmas! As a young girl and even now, I love Christmas and look forward to it so much. The older I get I try to enjoy the days leading up to Christmas instead of rushing the month of December by and then it being gone before I even realize it. To keep in the spirit of Christmas each day in December, your kids or you will love placing a new ornament on your tree every day as you count down the days.
I have a miniature Christmas tree that I like to use for this with the miniature ornaments. I do not have any other ornaments on the tree except the ones that will be there once the countdown begins. I like to see the tree go from nothing to being filled with ornaments. For me it represents the anticipation of Christmas until the tree is finally decorated on Christmas day.
You will need:
Scrapbook paper: I used two different designs to give more variety.
Start by punching out 25 circles from scrapbook paper for each day of December until Christmas. I used two different designs of paper with 12 of one design and 13 of another. It made for a perfect pattern.
If you do not have a paper punch, then you could also just trace the bottom of a jar or cup and then cut the circles out. I have found the paper punch is much easier and is not that expensive especially when you use a coupon. I also have found many uses for my paper punch since purchasing it.
I did not have any paper or sticker numbers, so I turned to my Cricut and cut out the numbers 1-25. You could also purchase the paper numbers if you do not have a Cricut.
Stick the numbers to the circles using an adhesive runner if you are not using sticker numbers.
Lay out your circles on the canvas first to get the correct lay out you want with even spacing.
Once you are happy with the layout, start sticking the circles to the canvas. I used fabric fuse which was easy to apply and worked great with the canvas. You could also probably use a hot glue gun or any other kind of adhesive. See what you already have and use it first rather than having to buy more supplies.
Place your miniature ornament hook on the top of each circle by placing the top of it behind the paper and leaving the larger end of the hook exposed.
Then hang your miniature ornaments on the hooks until every circle has an ornament.
Hang your countdown sign near your miniature Christmas tree and you are ready to go when December 1st gets here.
I love counting down the days to Christmas, and I know your kids will love placing an ornament every day and seeing the tree fill up as the days get closer to Christmas. Enjoy your countdown and all the fun things those special days before Christmas will entail.

This is such a good idea. My mother-in-law gave us an Advent Calendar the other day, but it didn’t work very well in presentation (my daughter loves using it a la ‘Where’s Waldo’ and pointing out all the pictures, though). My grandmother growing up had a felt Christmas tree countdown calendar that I have such fond memories of!
Bethany says
Thank you! I hope that your daughter will enjoy this one. That is so sweet that you still have such fond memories of your grandmother and Christmas. That is what the holidays are all about.

You are so right. The excitement comes with seeing the tree slowly decorated up until the big day.
