Once you have a few basic supplies and concepts, start a list of supplies to start collecting for Bible journaling. You can then start practicing more skills with additional art mediums.
Some of the links below are “affiliate links.” This means if you click a link and purchase an item, I will receive a small affiliate commission that helps me to be able to continue with this blog and hopefully continue to inspire you as well.
In the last part of my “All About the Bible Journaling” Series, I shared just a few basic supplies to get you started with Bible journaling or art journaling. I want to remind you again that none of these supplies are mandatory to get started. You basically just need a piece of paper and pencil or pen. The fun part though is being able to broaden those supplies and learning new techniques with all sorts of art mediums. As we continue the series with Part 5, the list of supplies below will be helpful for you to start that collection and also have some tools that are perfect for beginners. Nothing too intimidating or overwhelming. I will also link to my favorite brands of each of these products so you know exactly what I love to use.
*Also please keep in mind that many of the supplies I’m going to list below will have a tutorial on the blog in the near future as part of this series so start your collection now and then hang tight for that.
Gesso: It has a consistency similar to white acrylic paint used to prep your Bible pages. It makes the page stiffer and with a bit of texture when using certain mediums to avoid bleed through.
Alpha Stickers: Stickers of the alphabet letters and numbers that are perfect for spelling out a verse or quote in your Bible margins.
Watercolor Paints: Watercolors are a paint or pigment that is water-soluble. When water is added to the pigment, the paint becomes thin and transparent.
Watercolor Colored Pencils: These colored pencils are watersoluble giving the same transparent watercolor effect and can also be used as regular colored pencils without water.
Acrylic Paint: With the right technique, acrylic paint is a beautiful option for adding pops of color to your pages.
Rubber Stamps: These are easy to use with the actual stamp on the bottom and a wood block on top making it easy to hold and then stamp the page.
Acrylic Stamps: They are flexible, transparent, and thin adhering to an acrylic block. You can then stamp easily onto the page allowing you to see exactly where you are stamping.
Acrylic Block: A clear block that you adhere acrylic stamps to before stamping that self adhere. Some blocks are also lined to help lineup stamps on a straight line.
Ink Pad: Buy one that is permanent ink and not water soluble if using watercolors or watercolor colored pencils to color inside the stamp once you have stamped on the page.
Coloring Pages: Use these pages to trace different designs and shapes into your Bible in many different ways.
Gelatos: Similar to a crayon in texture and look like a chapstick that can be twisted up. They go smoothly onto the page and are used with several different techniques for different effects.
Paint Mist: This is a colored spray or mist that gives a splattered paint appearance for a huge pop of color.
Date Stamp: There are several different brands with different style fonts and even extra sayings that you can use for special occasions.
Tab Punch: A paper punch that cuts a tab-shape for using at the top of your page for quick reference when your Bible is closed.
Washi Tape: A tape that can easily be torn and applied to your page. It an be easily removed from the page without causing any damage or ripping.
Scrapbook Stickers/Paper Embellishments: Add extra color and design to your page using these in any shape or object you need.
