Because I love art and Bible journaling so much, I am always up for finding new ideas and techniques to try on my Bible pages. When I first thought of and heard the idea of being able to use hymnal pages in my journaling Bible and also in my gratitude journal, I knew I was going to love it.
I shared a post earlier this year using the Illustrated Faith Praise Book as a gratitude journal. Adding hymnal pages is perfect for this type of book by just placing a few hole punches and trimming the page down if needed to fit the right size. *Try checking out local thrift stores for older hymnals.
Imagine how much more I wanted to use my hymnal pages in my journal after I came across this plank wall art from Dayspring with the hymnal “It is Well with My Soul” painted on the background. I absolutely had to have it and then also use it as inspiration on my next entry. Plus it is priced at an incredibly low price for the quality and beauty. I couldn’t even believe it myself.
The handlettering layered on top is gorgeous with just a little pop of color in the flowers. The wall art is made of wood and has a hanger on the back to make it easy to display. With Mother’s Day approaching us quickly, this would be a perfect gift to give your Mom, sister, or any other special woman in your life. This is a great reminder to have around to read each and every day as they pass through their house or office. *In order to get yours in time for Mother’s Day, you will need to order from Dayspring before May 8.
There are a couple different ways that you can use hymnal book pages for art and Bible journaling. Trim your page down to fit the size you want for your gratitude journal or praise book. If your book has 3-rings, measure and place hole punches accordingly to insert it into the journal later. If your journal doesn’t have the 3-rings like this binder type, then no worries. Just trim the page down if needed. *This journal below is the Illustrated Faith Praise Book that you can also find on Dayspring.
Once you have the page to the correct size, start journaling on the page with whatever supplies or techniques you choose. I loved using the same design with a few changes of my own to use this plank art as an inspiration and starting place. I used acrylic paints and watercolors with some handlettering.
Add the page to your praise book if yours is like mine with the ring binder and you are good to go.
If yours does not have the 3-rings, then you can simply add it into your journal as an additional page using washi tape. Use this same idea for your journaling Bible if you are wanting to add it there. Many hymnals are quotes from scripture as well. Attach the page using washi tape by placing the tape to the back side of the page and then adhere it to the journal or Bible page.
Then no one can even see the washi.
You can also attach the hymnal page to the front of the page so it adds a little extra design and color. Both techniques are perfect because you can still lift the page up and see the page or scripture underneath.
I can’t wait to see this wall art everyday as a sweet reminder to my soul that all is well as long as I have God. I know your Mom would love it too so make sure you head over and grab one for her too just in time for Mother’s Day. You will also find Mother’s Day cards and other gift ideas while you are there. I love the idea of using old hymnals for journaling. I just purchased a journaling bible and have most of the supplies needed. Where can I find old hymnals to use.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. I got these hymnals from my grandmother that were actually some of my grandfathers. You can look for some at your local thrift store. They usually have them. I hope that helps. So glad you have a journaling Bible and supplies. You will love this journey!
